Chemical Peels

HOW DOES A CHEMICAL PEEL TREATMENT WORK?

You will first be received by one of our practitioners who will become your Personal Beautician. They will accompany you during the VISIA 7 diagnosis of skin and face, establishing your personal skin profile and analysis.

They will then direct you to one of our cosmetic dermatologists for an official consultation. This will allow us to establish a complete morphological assessment of your face and skin.

Before any type of treatment, our doctors will make sure that there are no contraindications and will ask you about any aesthetic medical procedures you may have undergone in the past and will conduct a thorough examination of your skin.

They take pictures of your face and propose a detailed plan.

On the day of the treatment, the session begins with a careful make-up removal with specific attention to the area where the peeling will be performed. You will be placed under a medical LED for 20 minutes to prepare the skin.

The doctor will then apply an acidic lotion to the skin with a brush. The time the lotion takes to work, and the amount of product used will determine the result, as will the intensity of the lotion used. Once the lotion has acted, the doctor will apply a basic solution that neutralizes the acid.

For medium and strong phenol peels, a mask is then applied that the patient will have to keep on for a few hours, or even days, in order to protect the skin and optimize the results of the peel.

After the treatment, it is very important that the patient strictly follows a precise skin care routine with a range of products that the doctor will give to them.

This care will first calm and soothe the consequences of the peel and then optimize the results. Avoidance of the sun is strongly recommended, and it is advisable to apply a sun cream with SPF 50.

It is recommended that the peel be performed between October and April to avoid excessive photosensitization. Depending on the doctor’s indications, they will determine the number of sessions recommended, but it is generally necessary to plan between 1 and 3 sessions to obtain the desired results.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PEELS?

A chemical peel is an aesthetic medical procedure that must be performed by a medical professional. It is not a simple exfoliation. It is intended, regardless of the patient’s age, for a skin problem that, once diagnosed by the doctor, will be treated with the appropriate peel. There are several types of chemical peels:

  • Superficial peel with fruit acids (AHA): recommended for young skin or skin subject to tobacco consumption that sometimes lacks radiance or has dilated pores. In this case, it is recommended to do a peeling to remove the dullness stuck on the skin. It is a kind of intense exfoliation that will remove the superficial skin layers. The aggressed skin will renew itself and become more radiant. It is also ideal for very fragile or sensitive skin with rosacea.

  • Medium peels or TCA: This is the treatment for people who want to treat the first signs of aging, fine lines, pigment spots, acne scars or keratosis pilaris. We also use this type of peel for hormonal or medicated melasma. This peel targets the entire epidermis down to the superficial dermis. 48 hours after its application, a clear desquamation occurs. The skin peels and some redness appears, but there is no need to avoid public life. However, this treatment requires the use of an adapted daily cosmetic routine.

  • Finally, the phenol peel achieves spectacular results in treating wrinkles, deep pigment spots, dark circles, and the general appearance of skin texture with a lifting effect.

These results are obtained through a controlled burning of the layers of the epidermis and the beginning of the dermis. This type of peeling is very effective and causes blisters, redness, and desquamation with a recovery period (in which you may wish to stay out of the public eye) of about ten days. But the results are exceptional, it’s a 10-year leap back in time for your skin!

WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF A PEEL?

The after-effects depend greatly on the type of chemical treatment used. The deeper the peel, the greater the side effects.

  • For a simple superficial peel, you will feel a slight heat during the application of the acid which will disappear very quickly. There is no need to avoid public life since the skin does not peel. It is a ‘lunch time treatment’ as American women call it, ideal before an event to give a glow to the face.
  • For medium peels, there will be a more or less significant desquamation within 48 hours, which may last 2 or 3 days. This does not prevent you from putting on makeup or going out while applying a good sun protection.
  • For Phenol peels, there is a long recovery period of 10 days with the formation of an oedema and a significant desquamation which requires you to remain at home and use an adapted cosmetic routine. Painkillers may be prescribed by the doctor to limit the burning sensation that some patients experience, but you should know that despite these inconveniences the result will be spectacular and that these side effects are minimal. A 6-month period of sun avoidance is expected, and the application of an SPF50 sunscreen is essential on a daily basis.

  • Contraindications include severe diabetes, heart disease, severe herpes-like skin rashes, pregnancy, and acne medication.

  • The duration of a peeling session lasts about 45 minutes at Skincare Agency. Your well-being is our top priority, so we ensure your comfort at every stage with an LED session.

  • Are there any risks?
  • The risks are almost non-existent thanks to the great mastery of our doctors. However, it is important to follow the post-peel instructions in order to avoid a pigmentary rebound and it is especially important to avoid sun exposure.
