The tensor thread procedure is a technique that has been used in cosmetic surgery for many years. Better known as “golden thread”, this permanent tensor thread process has an average life span of ten years, but it has also shown a significant risk of your body rejecting it.

Aesthetic medicine has innovated since the 1990s by developing semi-permanent resorbable tensor threads. This localized lifting technique allows the skin of the face or neck to be re-tensioned with the objective of reinforcing collagen production.

Absorbable tensor threads can correct major wrinkles, redraw the jawline or lift the cheekbones. Absorbable tensor sutures are made of a material very well known to surgeons, L-polylactic acid. This material is usually used to make sutures. Here in aesthetic medicine, L-polylactic acid is used in treatments designed to correct significant skin laxity. Thanks to tensor threads, many patients avoid a surgical face-lift that is often painful with a long recovery period involving social isolation.

Skin tissue changes with age. The skin loses its collagen and elastin fibers. It becomes less firm and less healthy. With the weight of the muscles and skin tissue, the skin will slacken, and we notice a loss of volume and a sagging of the face, often irreversible if the problem is not treated.

The tensor thread, also called notched thread, will allow the reconstruction of a subcutaneous mesh that will mechanically lift the sagging of the tissues while restarting the production of natural collagen and elastin by metabolizing and creating a positive inflammation. During the 24 months following the procedure, this natural tissue regeneration will cause a soft lifting of the skin.

WHAT ARE THE EXPECTED BENEFITS OF THE NOTCHED TENSOR THREAD IMPLANT?

The reshaping technique using notched tensor threads will is perfect for treating moderate sagging.

  • Neck tensor threads: For ptosis under the chin, wrinkled neck, and jawline.
  • Nose tightening sutures: for some cases of medical rhinoplasty.

This is why, depending on his diagnosis, he can recommend a procedure combining Radiesse injections and thread placement to first densify the dermis before placing the tightening threads so that they have real adhesion and play their lifting role to the fullest.

The first results of a tensor thread application are immediate due to the skin’s traction effect. But the effects continue to improve in the following days. The skin becomes firmer, plumper and more radiant. The final result can be seen after 3 months, after the skin regenerates and produces its own natural collagen and elastin.

The results last between 18 and 24 months depending on the number of threads and the condition of the skin.

PERSONALIZED SUPPORT TO BENEFIT FROM AN IMPLANT OF ABSORBABLE TENSOR THREADS

As previously mentioned, the placement of this type of thread requires a precise and informed medical diagnosis.

First of all, your Personal Beautician will perform a skin diagnosis using VISIA 7 technology. This first step will allow us to measure the specific characteristics of your skin, to identify the particularities and to identify the areas to be treated.

Then, you will have a medical consultation with our morphologist who will analyze the results of the VISIA 7 and continue the examination of your face. This complete assessment will allow us to determine the areas where the tightening threads can be implanted according to your skin and your desired appearance.

  • During this consultation, the doctor will also make sure that there are no contraindications and will discuss with you any previous aesthetic medical procedures that you may have undergone. Pictures of your face or neck are taken and you are given a cost estimate detailing the plan.
  • On the day of the procedure, the treatment begins with a careful make-up removal and disinfection of the area where the notched threads will be placed. The procedure is done under local anesthesia for maximum comfort.
  • The doctor will then mark the insertion points. With the help of a cannula containing the thread and serving as a stake, the thread will be positioned very precisely in order to respect the tension lines of your face.
  • Once the thread has been placed in the desired location, the doctor will tension it and cut it as short as possible, at the level of the skin, then insert it into the dermis. The number of threads required varies according to the needs.

Following the procedure, you will be placed under a LEDs for 20 minutes to allow the skin to soothe and limit the appearance of bruising.

It is not uncommon to notice small bruises at the entry points of the cannula and a slight edema in the treated area after the insertion of the threads. The doctor can, if you wish, prescribe a treatment to limit their appearance or to heal them more quickly. Otherwise, they will disappear after a few days. The treated area will remain sensitive or even swollen for a few days, but there is no need to stay home or avoid public life.

A follow-up visit is organized with our doctor a few days after the procedure to make sure that the threads are in place and that they have not moved. Some corrections can be made if necessary to improve the results.

The answers to your questions about tensor threads

  • Who performs tensor threads?

    • Only a doctor is authorized to apply tensor threads. They must master this practice because the procedure is complex and requires a strong knowledge of anatomy to guarantee a natural looking result. Our medical team is regularly trained by the CROMA laboratory, manufacturer of tensor threads to obtain certification degrees.

  • What are the contraindications of this treatment?

    • This type of treatment is not recommended during pregnancy or when the areas to be treated are subject to skin infections (herpes, acne) or if the person is subject to an inflammatory or autoimmune disease.

    For the ten days following the treatment, it is not recommended to practice any physical activity or to expose oneself to the sun without first putting on SPF50.

  • How long does the placement of tensor threads last?

    • The procedure of implanting absorbable threads lasts about 1 hour, but we generally allow two hours because we care about your well-being and want to make sure you have a relaxing experience.

  • What are the advantages of an absorbable tensor thread implant?

    • This technique provides an immediate lifting effect without surgery, without scars, without general anesthesia and without post-operative pain.

  • What are the possible side effects?

    • They are minimal and rare, except for some bruising or swelling that will disappear after a few days. However, the patient must avoid physical activity in the days following the procedure, avoid excessive facial expressions, shaving, scrubs, peels and sleeping on the stomach for a week.

    As an indication, here are some side effects that have been listed as very exceptional :

    – Allergic or inflammatory reaction
    – Appearance of granulomas along the threads
    – Small folds or dimples that disappear after a few days.

  • How to remove the tensor sutures?

    • Tensor sutures are easily removed under local anesthesia by simple hooking, but it is important to keep in mind that they will be absorbed by your skin in 18 to 24 months.
